Not all pieces will have imperfections. And not all imperfections are bad. Some of the "imperfections" may include:
Color variation
Natural hardwood variation
Length variation
Manufacturing variation
Milling variation
Shape variation
Other visual imperfections that do not hinder proper use or prevent installation
Acclimation times vary by species and product, but a rule of thumb is to acclimate wood floor products for at least three days. You’re trying to reach an equilibrium between the moisture content of the wood materials and the air where the product is being installed. Acclimation is the process of reaching this equilibrium moisture content – that is, the point at which the wood is neither gaining nor losing moisture.
Sometimes known as utility grade, cabin grade, or #3 common, rustic grade hardwood flooring is not known as the most expensive and most pristine but rather it is known for having character with a variety of shades, knots, visible grains and other small imperfections that give true meaning to the name "rustic". This is an excellent choice for budget that will add gorgeous personality to your home.
Because rustic hardwood flooring has marks and defects, it is better to buy select grade flooring if that is the look you are going for.
When you think of a cabin, you will likely picture a natural log cabin that looks cozy and strong. Cabin grade hardwood is durable and offers a solid and rough look. There is little to no consistency of the coloring or grain patterns, and you will see holes, knots, and mineral streaks across the surface. This makes cabin grade ideal for rooms that will see a lot of traffic.
Luxury Vinyl Plank, also known as LVP, is a luxury vinyl flooring that consists of planks as opposed to one large vinyl sheet or vinyl tile. It has become extremely popular over the last decade, due to its durability, water proofing, and built-in underlayment.
Contrary to popular belief, LVP does in fact need to acclimate. Much like hardwood and other flooring, the LVP needs to reach a point of moisture equilibrium. Though there are many factors to consider before deciding how long is long enough, a good rule of thumb for LVP is to let it acclimate for at least 48 hours before installing.
Simply put, a floating floor system is any installation method that allows the flooring to “float’ freely above your subfloor. This just means the floor is not glued or nailed down to the subfloor.
In a word, YES! LVP is great for many reasons, one of them being that it goes very well with existing flooring. There are loads of color schemes that will help match and contrast to your existing floors. It is not uncommon for people to install LVP alongside of, or even over existing hardwood.
